New blogger & 5 Blogging Tips

I am a new blogger and I have found that in some ways blogging is like keeping a diary. On this particular day I really needed to come to terms with what was bothering me. Let me explain.. This was me on one of the worst days hiding behind my aviators + a cool hat, but this was also the day I had a revelation!

me on one of my worst days

I started blogging because I want to have a creative outlet. I want to share a portion of my life on this little piece of the Internet like some have called it. I want to be a light to others who need inspiration and encouragement. Now I know I just started this paragraph with three sentences that begin with “I”. So that is also what happened this past week, “I” tried to eat an elephant!

I was reminded of a sermon we had at our church when our Pastor talked about How to eat an elephant! He starts off by telling this very relatable story about him doing yard work and after awhile he realized he just took on way too much and then his back ends up suffering… you get the picture right? Then he also talks about how easy this is to do. We forget to stop and take stock of our lives. How are things doing? How is my marriage and is it ok? Is this really what I want and so on. If you are curious about the sermon you can check it out here.

This is where I found myself this week completely overwhelmed, unorganized, trouble sleeping and insecure about who I am. I didn’t realize I was trying to eat an elephant. I stopped praying because I thought why would God care about my blog! Well I’m not sure if he does, but I do know he cares about me and the things that matter to me. I had put my blog before everything else and this my friend is a slippery slope and not something I would recommend. Now I am not saying I stopped being a wife and a Mom and let the laundry and dishes pile high, however I did allow this to take over. Maybe you are asking well why did it take over? I thought this was an outlet aren’t they suppose to be fun? Well yes and when it starts feeling like a job then it might be time to take stock.

So I did just that and it helped me to reevaluate things and to realize what I want. This is a personal list of things that are helping me and I hope one or more of them can help you too.

5 BLOGGING TIPS-

  • BE YOU. DO YOU & SILENCE THE NEGATIVE TALK!
  • SET A SCHEDULE FOR POSTING ON YOUR BLOG ASWELL AS ON ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, CONSISTENCY IS KEY FOR SUCCESS & SANITY!
  • SPELLCHECK & PROOFREAD AND THEN DO IT AGAIN.

I also recommend getting yourself a notebook to write down your ideas and thoughts to blog. I wanted something that would inspire me so I found this one and I love that it is hard bound, almost leather that I can tote around with me in the house or can be thrown in a purse.
